Give Skin A Glow

It may not be beach season quite yet, but you can always draw upon natural ocean resources to make your beauty routine more green and effective. These natural beauty ingredients are affordable and safe to add to your regimen, and they really work to help give your skin a luxurious glow. Read on to learn about the four powerful ingredients from under the sea that can provide a great boost to your beauty routine. Bonus: if you’re eager to try products featuring these great ingredients, we’ve included them in our March 2017 Boxes!

ALGAE

Algae is a small ocean plant that packs a big punch. Rich in potassium, calcium, iron, and zinc, it helps your skin form a strong natural barrier to reinforce skin cell walls and helps to retain vitamins and water. What this means: your skin will stay hydrated, which minimizes wrinkles and other aging effects. Are you a beach bum? Brown algae decreases inflammation from UV light by increasing the production of both collagen and antioxidant enzymes, which is great for those of us who love the sun. The boost in collagen also helps to restore your skin’s natural firmness and elasticity. Do you suffer from acne or skin sensitivity? Red algae is ideal for sensitive skin because it calms while hydrating, as well as smooths surface lines. Algae can also be consumed to help maintain healthy digestion and further promote healthy skin.

SEA SALT

Sea salt is one of the purest natural minerals to be used for beauty routines because it is taken from evaporated ocean water. That process requires very little handling, making it even more eco-friendly. Good sea salt has over 75 minerals that address a variety of skin care concerns such as dehydration, aging, and uneven skin tone. It also deeply cleanses pores and balances oil production. We featured Co-Pur Lavender Lime Bath Salts in some of our March 2017 boxes to give our moms a natural, refreshing way to treat their skin in the bath.

Try as A DIY

Mix one teaspoon of sea salt with four ounces of warm water in a small spray bottle.  Shake until the salt is dissolved and mist onto clean, dry skin. Be sure to avoid your eyes. Use up to twice daily and reap the benefits!

CLAY

There are several different types of clay that benefit your skin. Bentonite clay is made from volcanic ash and is known as a “healing clay.” Not only do people use it on their skin to absorb extra oil and remove toxins from their faces, but ingesting it also helps people detox and protects against sickness. Rhassoul clay comes from ancient Moroccan clay and is very high in minerals. It pulls impurities out of your skin, yet it is gentle enough for daily use.

We love that both these clays (and algae!) are found in the Province Apothecary Detoxifying and Clarifying Clay mask, featured in our March 2017 Mom Boxes. This mask is great for all skin types, acting as a magnet to draw out impurities, clear pores, and calm your complexion.

KELP

Kelp is a tiny marine plant rich in protein, nutrients, and minerals such as iodine, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron. This ingredient powerhouse makes it ideal for skincare. Not only does it reset your skin by drawing out toxins and bacteria, but it also contains Omega-3 essential fatty acids that nourish the skin. Those properties combine to provide a powerful wrinkle-fighter (goodbye smile lines!) and can also help boost your natural glow.
